For the purpose of this tutorial, we’ll select the Launch Hosting plan which allows up to 2 websites in one account. The screenshots below will walk us through the signup process. It’s important that you take a closer look at step 3 – they apply a classic marketing technique there!
Step 1 – We select the 12 month package.

Step 2 – We select the second option “I already own this domain or will handle the registration separately.” As we’ve discussed before, we should always register our domains separately with an ICANN certified domain registrar. This prevents the “domain lock-in” effect and provides you with an extra layer of control.
We recommend using Namecheap.com for domain registrations.

Step 3 – Don’t select any of the options here unless you want to upgrade your plan.

Step 4 – Enter your account details, select WordPress as the CMS to be auto-installed if you prefer.
This is an optional step because we’ll see how to install WordPress using an automated script installer like Softaculous. If you’d like to have a bit more fun (or learn something new today), leave this bit unchecked and finish the signup process.

One other thing to mention here is that installing WordPress later on is still a very fast process, but it gives you more control over certain settings.
Once all the details are filled, select Purchase Account to confirm your payment.

Immediately after logging in, you’ll be greeted with this page. This is actually the Softaculous automated script installation software. Softaculous is designed to install popular open-source software (like WordPress) on shared/re-seller hosting platforms.
If you’ve used a mainstream shared hosting company in the past, you’ve probably heard of or used Softaculous. The benefits of an automated script installer is that it installs all the necessary components for the original software to run. For example: when you’re using WordPress, you need to create a new database, a database user and grant transactional privileges to that user. Sotaculous does all that for you – automatically.
Let’s walk through the settings one by one.
- Choose Protocol: Leave this field as HTTP unless you’ve signed up for SSL
- Choose Domain: If you have multiple domains or sub-domains linked to your hosting account, select the desired one.
- In Directory: Keep this blank if you want to install it in the root directory of your domain. This means that your blog will be accessible from yoursitename.com. If you enter a directory name, say “rumba”, WordPress will be accessible from www.yoursitename.com/rumba.
- Database Name: Enter a random alphanumeric combination. This makes it difficult for penetrators to hack your database.
- Table Prefix: Again, use an alphanumeric combination followed by the underscore character.
- The Site Name and Site Description are yours to set.
- We won’t be setting up WordPress Multisite in this tutorial so we can leave the Enable Multisite (WPMU)option unchecked.
- Admin Username: Please ensure that it is not admin or This makes it very easy for attacks to infiltrate your website.
- Under Admin Password use the password generator to get a strong password. Ideally, your password’s strength should be 100/100. Don’t forget to save the password before you proceed.
- Admin Email: This should be your work/personal email address. Be very careful, because all password recovery or site notification emails will be sent to this address.
- Limit Login Attempts: This is a famous plugin known to keep attackers at bay. It basically bans an IP address after three failed login attempts. I recommend you install this plugin for better security.
- You could also enter your email address under the “Email installation details to” field in case you want to maintain a complete log.
Double-check the data, triple-check the login details and click on Install.

One of the best things I like about InMotion Hosting is that they give back to the WordPress community. I took the time to go through the list of WordCamps they’ve sponsored. The number was impressive. InMotion WordPress Hosting has sponsored 18 WordCamps from 2010!
Given the general buzz about InMotion’s awesome hosting in the WordPress community, you can surely give it a spin. And remember, WP Super Star readers get an additional 47% discount in all their hosting plans.
